Have you ever had a ride that you know will be burned in your memory for the rest of your life as it’s been unfolding? Yes, I’m sure you have. Well the ride I had today was clearly one of those rides at the first pedal stroke, way before the grinding fireroad start ended. Jay from the Bicycle Cafe in Canmore had invited me out to ride a trail the shop riders and their friends had been working on for a whole year. It is called A Touch of Class. Yes, one whole year to build it. How can that be? Well, it was one long ribbon of super techy, perfect and flowy singletrack that descended around 1500m through spectacular and virtually untouched natural woodland. Oh, and there were some steep bits. Like, terrifiyingly steep…. But pride had me dive bombing after Jay. And guess what? I arrived at the bottom feeling like a better rider than I was at the top.
